Sydney Airport Domestic Terminal Upgrade

TCE Contracting undertook Stage 1 Early Works for the Sydney Airport Domestic Terminal 2 upgrade, focusing on demolishing material around existing columns to expose their footings for column strengthening. The work was performed within airport curfew hours from 11:00 pm to 4:30 am and was divided into two stages. A major challenge was the limited space in the baggage handling area, combined with the heavily reinforced concrete slabs up to 1 meter thick. TCE addressed this by cutting the concrete into 300 mm x 300mm x 300mm sections for easier handling and removal. Additionally, hydrocarbon-impacted soils were identified, prompting a recommendation for a detailed investigation of Stage 2 to manage contamination effectively.

Additionally, we successfully completed the demolition, remediation, and civil works for the Security and Check-in Upgrade Project at Sydney Airport’s Domestic Terminal (T2). The project was carried out during the airport’s curfew hours, from 10:00 pm to 4:00 am, ensuring the site was made safe for daily operations. The works involved handling impacted soils contaminated with heavy metals, PAHs, TRHs, and PFAS in a high-VOC environment. To address these challenges, TCE implemented rigorous mitigation controls, including extraction fans, portable odour suppressants, Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPRs), and full coveralls. TCE appreciates the opportunity to contribute to this critical upgrade project and thanks the client for their support.
