TCE is Committed to Serious Action Against Climate Change
The negative externalities that our industry is responsible for has echoed a call to action within our company. The 2022 National Waste Report indicated that 29 million tonnes of waste came from the construction and demolition sector, equating to over 38% of Australia’s total waste. Additionally, the construction industry is said to contribute approximately 18% of Australia’s total greenhouse gas emissions. These alarming statistics have motivated us to work diligently to change industry patterns. How might we create an impact on such a major issue you may ask? Embracing the Circular Economy.
TCE Values Waste Minimisation and Resource Optimisation
We are persistent on finding new ways to reuse, recycle and prolong the life of our materials. The 5 “R’s” of the Circular Economy, Rethinking, Refusing, Reusing, Reducing, and Recycling, are pivotal to all we do. We assess our climate contribution from the design process until the finalised result, with everything from materials to transportation considered. Reducing our contribution to excessive waste and carbon emissions is central to our daily operations.
The Process
Refuse
TCE is actively conversing with suppliers to ensure that we do not purchase goods that are wasteful, non-recyclable, use excessive packaging, or are non-reusable.
Reduce
TCE makes active attempts to reduce the use of harmful, wasteful, and non-recyclable products and practices.
Reuse
TCE encourages the use of multiple-use items as an alternative to single-use items in our procurement and business practices.
Repurpose
Where items are unable to be Refused, Reduced, or Reused, TCE attempts to Repurpose them. Using potential waste items for other means takes creativity and commitment, qualities which our team members possess. This practice is often called Upcycling.
Recycle
Once TCE have exhausted all the other R’s, we will recycle all waste items.
